The BBC kicked off a brand new season of The Great British Sewing Bee on Tuesday evening. The show features amateur sewers competing to impress judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young, all aiming to earn the title of Britain’s most sensational seamster, with Sara Pascoe as host.
However, just moments into the first episode, fans took to social media with complaints after the show’s official X (Twitter) account posted an apology. In a preview of upcoming moments from the highly anticipated season, the BBC show included a sneak peek of a “jumpscare” moment. A photo of a creepy-looking doll—with black button eyes and a stitched loveheart-shaped mouth—was shared, alongside the caption:
Apologies for this absolute jumpscare… #SewingBee.
But it wasn’t the eerie toy that upset viewers—it was the amount of content revealed in the previews.

Fans took to social media to share their frustrations. One viewer questioned: “Is it even worth watching #SewingBee? They’ve shown everything in the first few minutes. The bane of any competition programme.” Another replied: “I think it’s worse when they show you ‘next week’ and flash half the stuff almost finished.”
A third added: “I agree, I try not to watch the intro and outro,” before saying: “Talk about spoiler alert!”
Meanwhile, some fans were upset over the lack of promotion for the new season, saying they nearly missed the premiere. One wrote: “Crumbs!! I’ve been so busy avoiding Wimbledon that I didn’t even realise Sewing Bee is back!! Get me a comfy chair, a wine and the playlist ASAP! #SewingBee.”

Another viewer expressed a similar sentiment, posting: “Poor work from the BBC, barely seen a single sniff of a trailer for the new series of #SewingBee. One of the most charming TV shows going and I almost stumbled across the fact that it’s back on tonight!!@sewingbee.”
However, not all feedback was negative. Some fans were thrilled about the return of the sewing competition. One delighted viewer shared: “Nobody told me it’s back tonight. What a lovely surprise & welcome back! #SewingBee.” Another added: “Oh I do love this, so pleased it’s back #SewingBee.”
Over the course of 10 weeks, the contestants’ sewing skills will be put to the test with themes ranging from art and movies to the 1920s and Korea. The first week featured challenges including a tie-front blouse with a peplum, a circle skirt transformation, and a made-to-measure pleated dress. While one sewer earns garment of the week, another’s journey comes to an end.
