Bob Gale, the co-creator of Back to the Future, thinks there’s no need for a fourth movie. He shared his thoughts during a press conference after the Saturn Awards on Sunday. Gale was there with Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson, who starred in the films, as they accepted the George Pal Memorial Award.
People always say, ‘Well, when are you guys gonna do Back to the Future 4?’ And we say, ‘F— you.’ You can quote me on that.

Bob Gale has no plans to make more Back to the Future movies. He explained that since fans kept asking for new content, he and Robert Zemeckis, who co-wrote and directed the trilogy, decided to try something different.
We made three terrific movies, and people kept asking for more Back to the Future, so we made Back to the Future: The Musical, which Chris and Lea have attended on several occasions, We’re taking it around the world.

Bob Gale listed all the places where Back to the Future: The Musical will soon premiere, including Japan, Germany, and Australia. “My God, Back to the Future — I’m gonna be doing it for the rest of my life!” he said excitedly. “Who could ask for anything more?”
The original Back to the Future was the top movie of 1985, and the sequels released in 1989 and 1990 also became huge box office hits. Despite the success, Gale and Zemeckis have always made it clear they have no interest in making another sequel.

Bob Gale has found other ways to keep the Back to the Future universe alive. After the original trilogy, he worked on Back to the Future: The Animated Series, which aired from 1991 to 1993. He also helped develop Telltale’s Back to the Future video game, which came out in episodes in the early 2010s.

In 2015, Gale and Robert Zemeckis co-wrote the short film Doc Brown Saves the World, featured in the 30th-anniversary box set. That same year, Gale co-authored a Back to the Future comic book series for IDW Publishing. While Gale doesn’t want a fourth movie, Zemeckis has hinted that he might be open to the idea.
I would like to do Back to the Future: The Musical [as a movie], Just like [Mel Brooks] did with The Producers. I would love to do that. I think that would be great.
Zemeckis said in an interview with Happy Sad Confused last year.
During the Saturn Awards press conference, Gale shared what he’d tell his younger self if he had a time machine.
I’ve always said that if I walked into the office Bob Zemeckis and I had in the ’80s and said, ‘Hey guys, do you know what’s happening in 2024?’ If I told them, they’d probably say, ‘Old man, get out of here! What have you been drinking?’
