The British TV show Baby Reindeer, which is very popular but also a bit controversial, won four Emmy Awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles.
Netflix’s show Baby Reindeer won four Emmy Awards at the ceremony on Sunday night. It took home awards for Best Limited or Anthology Series, and Richard Gadd won for Best Writer and Lead Actor. Jessica Gunning also won for Best Supporting Actress.
When Baby Reindeer won the top award, creator and star Richard Gadd took the stage for the third time. He mentioned that the industry has been facing money problems, but he believes there is a way to fix it.
“I think no problem ever gets solved without taking some risks. Baby Reindeer shows that there’s no one right way to make a hit show. You don’t need big stars, popular stories, long-running series, or perfect storytelling to be successful.”
He said
“The one thing that always leads to success in TV is good storytelling. It should connect with what’s happening today. So, take chances, try new things, and don’t be afraid to explore tough topics. Sometimes you need to risk failing to succeed.”
He added
Baby Reindeer received three more nominations at the Primetime Emmys. Nava Mau was nominated for Best Supporting Actress along with Jessica Gunning. Tom Goodman-Hill was up for Best Supporting Actor, and Weronika Tofilska was nominated for Best Director. All of them, including Gadd and Gunning, were nominated for the first time.

Last week at the Creative Arts Emmys, Baby Reindeer won awards for casting and editing. The show also got nominations for contemporary costumes and music supervision.
Based on a stage play and real events in Gadd’s life, Baby Reindeer is about an aspiring comedian who becomes the target of a serial stalker. As the stalker’s actions become more intense, he has to confront a deep and hidden trauma.
About a week after it came out, Baby Reindeer reached the top of Netflix’s TV charts in the U.K., where Gadd is from. In the U.S., the show hit the No. 2 spot. It later became the 10th most-watched Netflix show ever, but it has since fallen out of the top 10.

However, the show has caused some controversy because people question how much Gadd changed his real-life stalker experience. After Baby Reindeer came out, a Scottish woman named Fiona Harvey said she was the inspiration for the stalker character, Martha, and she sued Netflix for $170 million in damages.
