It’s no secret that more League of Legends animated shows are being planned after the huge success of Arcane. Netflix’s hit animated series from Christian Linke and Alex Yee ended its second and final season last year, wrapping up the story of sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell) on a bittersweet note that promised a better future for Piltover and Zaun.
The season earned massive praise once again, getting a Certified Fresh 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and proving what a video game adaptation can achieve with the right team and budget. With the entire world of Runeterra left to explore, the possibilities for the next show are endless. Yee and writer/executive producer Amanda Overton haven’t revealed what’s in the works yet, but they shared a surprising and funny idea they’ve spent quite a bit of time imagining.
During Collider’s screening of the Season 2 finale, Yee and Overton joined a Q&A with Perri Nemiroff. When asked what kind of spin-off they would create if there were no limits, they opened up. Linke and Yee had already told Collider’s Laura Adams earlier that they didn’t want to talk about any specific champions or stories before details were finalized.

Back in May, their focus was on finding other creators who were passionate about bringing the world of League to life in a fresh way. But with no restrictions, Yee and Overton shared an unusual sitcom pitch involving Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn (Katie Leung) as a tribute to a classic comedy.
So, what happens is Vi and Caitlyn are moving forward in their lives together, and for reasons I can’t explain, since Caitlyn is so wealthy, they get a rent-controlled apartment, and Jinx, because it’s a totally alternate universe, lives with them. It’s just really kind of like a Three’s Company… We have brainstormed several scenes of this spin-off. It’s got really compelling jokes, like, ‘Whose hair is in the drain,’ when it’s pink, blue, black. Jayce (Kevin Alejandro), or “Big brother J,” would also be involved, bringing casseroles for dinner.
Yee said before Overton added, “Sitcom.” “Awkward.” This fun idea would show Vi and Caitlyn’s romance continuing after Season 2 and follow their daily lives in a comedic way, while also dealing with Jinx as the third wheel and plenty of funny moments. Yee continued
A lighter, funnier sitcom version of Runeterra isn’t completely impossible. Season 2 even showed a parallel world where Vander (JB Blanc) never died and Piltover and Zaun were at peace, while giving the main characters valuable lessons to bring back to Arcane’s main timeline. Even so, Yee and Overton’s Three’s Company idea is more of a fun thought experiment than a real spin-off plan. However, it does point to something Yee says he and Linke are truly interested in exploring after the intense story of Vi and Jinx.
Using their knowledge of the game and its lore, Yee explained that they really want to show how the champions live their normal lives when they’re not fighting. While there’s nothing he could officially share, he admitted it would make sense for a future project to focus on that aspect with different League characters. It doesn’t have to be a sitcom, but there’s real interest in creating something that makes Runeterra feel alive and the champions feel more human.
We genuinely did, I think, spend what could be considered real work time on this. Realistically, we know the game, right? There are a lot of characters. There’s a lot of world. For Christian and I, being able to feel like we deliver on a promise of players getting to see their champions eye to eye and actually get the sense of how they fit in the world and what they look like when they’re sharing, like, a tenement house or something, is a passion. It’s a goal. It’s a feeling that we really want to fulfill. And if that happens to be what upcoming content would look like, well, that would be a big coincidence, I suppose.
Of course, both Yee and Overton still enjoy imagining more adventures with Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn. “In my fantasy world, we have 40-year-old Vi and Caitlyn going on a road trip across Runeterra, and chaos follows,” Overton said, as she and Yee joked about who would be the one driving.
While fans wait for updates on what’s next for League of Legends on TV, Arcane is available to stream in full on Netflix.
