In 2024, Marvel stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh teamed up for a non-superhero drama called We Live in Time. The film touched hearts after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and will soon be available to stream.
The A24 drama We Live in Time will stream on Max starting Friday, Feb. 7, as confirmed by Warner Bros. It will also air on HBO on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 8:00 p.m. ET. The movie premiered in early September at TIFF, hit theaters widely on Oct. 18, 2024, and was released in the U.K., Ireland, and Spain in early January.
We Live in Time tells the story of Almut (played by Florence Pugh) and Tobias (played by Andrew Garfield) over ten years, but it doesn’t follow the events in order. The movie shows important moments in their lives, like when they meet, fall in love, and have a child. It also shows a tough time they face together, which helps them cherish their happy memories even more.
We Live in Time did okay in theaters, earning $38.8 million worldwide so far. The movie is still showing in some international theaters (according to The Numbers). A24 hasn’t shared how much it cost to make the film, but movies like this usually cost between $20 million and $30 million. This means the film might not have made enough money to cover all its costs yet.

The movie got good reviews from both critics and viewers, and their ratings match up pretty well. Critics gave it a 78% approval rating, which is enough to keep its Certified Fresh badge. Viewers liked it even more, giving it a score of 83%. We Live in Time was directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn) and written by Nick Payne (The Last Letter from Your Lover). It was produced by Adam Ackland, Leah Clarke, and Guy Heeley.
We Live in Time is a touching love story starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, whose on-screen connection was highly praised. For Garfield, the role hit close to home as it reflected what he was going through in real life. In an interview with The Nightly, Garfield shared that he was still coping with his mom’s death in 2019 while filming the movie.
The movie explored everything I was dealing with at that time—love, loss, grief, and finding meaning in life, I felt lucky that the script asked the same big questions I was asking in my own life.
Garfield said
As an actor, it felt like a gift to work through something I was personally going through.
Garfield added,
He explained that while he drew from his own life, it was all part of telling the story.
You take your own emotions and experiences, mix them together, and turn them into something for the character. Then you share that character with others, hoping they see themselves in it, connect with it, and feel something meaningful. That’s what storytelling is all about for me,
Garfield shared
We Live in Time will start streaming on Max on Feb. 7.
