Andor Season 2 is almost here! While Lucasfilm didn’t reveal much during Star Wars Celebration, fans still received plenty of exciting content, including trailers and teasers, recently. Season 2 will feature time jumps, with every three episodes released simultaneously. Each group of three episodes tells a different story that takes place a year after the previous one.
This approach to telling the story can be a bit tricky, especially for a show like Andor, where scenes weren’t always filmed in the order they occurred. Steve Weintraub from Collider talked to Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk about Season 2.
Diego explained how he kept his beard looking right for each scene, since the show jumps through several years and was filmed out of order.
We made a plan, and then the plan was ruined. We made a plan, but it was a weird schedule because we didn’t shoot in order. Sometimes blocks will happen at the same time, or had to interact. So, I spent a few days sticking hair because I made the wrong choice, like, “Shit! I need to have my facial hair!” There was a very cool technique, which is you put glue, you put real hair, and then you have someone else’s hair on your face, basically. So, I have to thank that person. It’s part of my performance.
Whenever you see Diego Luna with a beard in Andor Season 2, remember — it might not be his real hair! Star Wars has three major movie series that, together, cover approximately 60 years of story. So, many Star Wars shows help fill in the blanks.

Andor was always planned to have just two seasons and end right before Rogue One. Even though the show became one of the most loved parts of Star Wars, the plan hasn’t changed.

In the same interview, Luna discussed how the story has remained the same. He also praised Tony Gilroy, the show’s creator, for being good at finding new and interesting stories to tell as the show moves forward.
When I read Season 2, I just remembered that was exactly what he pitched me at the beginning. He was consistent with that. It was just richer, obviously, because of all the new storylines and the stuff we found on the way. The core of the thing was the exact same, which in this long format is something you don’t see often. People start pitching things and then they go out to find out what they can do. This was consistent. I was also impressed on how he managed to deliver for each character. Everyone has its closure, which is really cool. And I love the way this relation starts.
Weintraub also joked with Alan Tudyk and Diego Luna, asking if they planned to quit acting after Andor Season 2 — since, in his words, it would be hard to top this. Tudyk, who also recently did the voice for Doctor Phosphorus in Creature Commandos, said that K-2SO is his favorite robot he’s ever played. But he also said he might be ready to try some new things now.
I’m actually using this as my launch into retirement. I’m taking it off of you that this is the time. I’ve done it, man. I can take it easy now.
Luna joined in on the fun and asked Tudyk if he was done with everything or just done playing robots. Tudyk then gave his answer.
All of it, man. I’m done with all of it. I’ve done as many robots as I can do, but K-2[SO] is the best. I think it’s a good time to go out.
Luna also made a joke about retiring, saying he’s spent 10 years working on the character Cassian Andor. He said he’s excited to do other things he loves — like cooking. Tudyk then reminded him that Luna still owes him a paella, a dish he promised to make back when they were filming Season 2, which had to stop for a while because of the strikes.
Andor Season 2 will go right up to the start of Rogue One, and will even bring in characters from that movie who weren’t in Season 1 — like K-2SO. Luna also shared what he thinks makes Andor different from most shows: instead of worrying about more seasons, Andor focuses on just telling a really great story.
