On Friday, the studio announced that Tom Gormican, known for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, will direct the new version of the 1997 snake-themed horror movie.
The film will hit theaters just in time for the holidays on December 25, 2025. Paul Rudd and Jack Black will take on the lead roles in this Columbia Pictures production.
Gormican worked on the script with Kevin Etten, while Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing the movie under Fully Formed. In the video below, Paul Rudd and Jack Black share their excitement about the new movie.

Back in August, The Hollywood Reporter shared that the movie was in the works. Right now, the plot is being kept a secret, hidden just like a snake in the grass.
The original Anaconda movie, directed by Luis Llosa in 1997, starred Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight. The story followed a National Geographic crew on a dangerous hunt for the world’s largest and deadliest snake. The film inspired several sequels after its success.
The original Anaconda made over $136 million at the global box office, which would be about $269 million today. Paul Rudd starred in this year’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and will appear with Jenna Ortega in A24’s Death of a Unicorn, coming out in the spring. Jack Black voiced characters in 2024’s Kung Fu Panda 4 and Borderlands. He’s also starring in A Minecraft Movie, set to release in April.
