The latest trailer for the upcoming Alien: Earth TV show has finally revealed exactly where it fits in the Alien timeline.
FX’s Alien series was said to take place near the end of this century, just a few years before Prometheus (2093) and about 30 years before Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie Alien, which happens in 2122.
The new trailer shows that this isn’t true. Instead, Alien: Earth takes place in 2120, which is long after Prometheus and just two years before Alien. This is the same time the Nostromo crew faced their terrible fate. In the trailer, a voice says,
“In 2120, Mother Earth is expecting,” followed by spooky Xenomorph sounds and scary scenes.

Fans are already wondering how this fits into the bigger Alien story and what it means for Alien: Earth. Some think the show might show the Nostromo leaving Earth or how the evil company Weyland-Yutani first learned about the Xenomorphs. For context, the recently released movie Alien: Romulus happens between Alien and Aliens.
In Alien: Earth, a strange spaceship crashes on Earth. A young woman (played by Sydney Chandler) and a group of tough soldiers make a shocking discovery that brings them face-to-face with the planet’s biggest danger.
There’s not much information yet, but the trailer does show the Xenomorph we’ll see in the show. It also teases other creatures, though they’re hard to figure out. The cast includes Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille, and Moe Bar-El.
In January, showrunner Noah Hawley explained why Alien: Earth doesn’t use the backstory from Prometheus. He said he enjoys the “retro-futurism” of the original Alien movies. Hawley also talked to Alien creator Ridley Scott about many parts of the series, including the prequels. However, he decided to move away from the bioweapon story and stick with the original movie’s lore.
FX’s Alien: Earth will be available on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Alien: Romulus 2 is also being made.
