Created by Noah Hawley, the series is set on Earth and follows the aftermath of a spacecraft crash-landing, bringing unsuspecting humans face-to-face with the deadly Xenomorphs. This setting marks a significant departure from the usual environments seen in the Alien franchise films.
The official synopsis for Alien: Earth states:
When a mysterious spacecraft crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a group of tactical soldiers make a shocking discovery that brings them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat. As the crash recovery team searches the wreckage for survivors, they encounter terrifying predatory creatures beyond anything they could have imagined. With this new danger unleashed, the team must fight to survive—while their choices could alter the fate of Earth itself.
Speaking about the series’ new setting, Hawley teased,
There’s something eerie about seeing a Xenomorph roaming Earth in the wild. Just imagining it moving among us is chilling. I can’t reveal how or when you’ll see it, but when you do, you’ll want to lock your doors that night.
What was really fun for me was to really engage with the creature, bring some of my own thoughts to the design while not touching the silhouette, because that’s sacrosanct.
Hawley also shared his excitement about working with the iconic Xenomorphs, saying,

Alien: Earth is set 30 years before the events of the original Alien film. The standalone series will disregard the lore from the Alien vs. Predator films and Prometheus. While the franchise has continued to thrive with standalone films, such as last year’s Romulus, it remains to be seen how its transition to television will unfold.
The series is set to premiere on FX on Hulu and Disney+ in Summer 2025.
