The wait is finally over! After three years, Severance Season 2 is here, with the first episode premiered on Apple TV Plus this Friday. The opening wastes no time pulling us back into Lumon’s intense Severed Floor, where Adam Scott’s character kicks things off with an exciting dash inspired by Tom Cruise.
In the teaser for Season 2, we see Mark (played by Scott) running through Lumon’s bright white hallways, searching for the wellness center after the shocking discovery from Season 1. For nearly two minutes, Mark rushes around like he’s in a maze, while the camera angles add to the tension. Scott admitted he didn’t do special training for the scene but said he looked to the “Mission: Impossible” star for running tips.
I practiced by watching Tom Cruise and studying his moves, Ben Stiller and I talked a lot about Cruise while filming because he’s the best at running in clothes that aren’t made for it. I had to run the whole time wearing a suit.
Adam Scott shared in a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes on Twitter
Adam did a lot of running this season, I always knew another running scene was on the way when they asked me what color Gatorade I wanted in three days,
joked Ben Stiller, one of the show’s executive producers. Scott also noticed a funny way he could tell when more running scenes were coming
The showrunners shared more cool behind-the-scenes details during the January 17 episode of The Severance Podcast with Ben Stiller & Adam Scott. Stiller said he was excited to create another long hallway scene as a “nice mirror” to the intro from season 1’s Severed Floor. He called it a “great teamwork effort” between cinematographer Jessica Lee Gangé, production designer Jeremy Hendel, and the visual effects crew.

Stiller explained that filming the opening scene of season 2, called “Hello, Ms. Cobel,” took about four to five months, mostly because of scheduling problems.

There are about 10 different parts to it, Each part needed something different. For one, we had to use a green screen, put you on a treadmill, and use a special motion camera to move around you and capture the shot.
he said
There was one scene where we had to remove a wall and use a machine called a bolt arm, It’s a robot arm with a camera that moves in a programmed way. This machine takes up a lot of space, so we had to change the usual layout of the hallways. Because of that, we couldn’t shoot other scenes in the hallways at the same time. We had to carefully plan it for times when you were filming scenes on a different set.
Stiller explained
The Severance team did an amazing job putting everything together, creating a visual masterpiece they can be really proud of.
