“The actress stated, ‘I’m just saying … when people work with known abusers in any job, it tells everyone that men can do awful things and not face the consequences.'”
Abigail Breslin says she got death threats after seeming to criticize Katy Perry for collaborating with accused abuser Dr. Luke. The actor shared her thoughts on social media (formerly Twitter), sparking speculation among fans that she meant Perry working with Dr. Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) on her new song “Woman’s World” for her upcoming album 143.
Breslin wrote, “I’m just saying … when people work with known abusers in any job, it tells everyone that men can do awful things and not face the consequences.” By the way, I love @KeshaRose; her concert last year was one of the best I’ve ever seen! <3 Listen to Kesha!”
Perry fans criticized the Little Miss Sunshine actress for singling out Perry and not mentioning other artists who have also worked with the controversial producer.
You call Katy a hypocrite, but why just single her out when many other artists have worked with him too?
People are making a big deal now that Katy is working with him, but where was all this noise when Doja Cat, SZA, and Nicki Minaj worked with him? HABAHAHAHA, stay quiet, you khia!
The actress spoke out about her past experience with someone who hurt her. “When I shared my thoughts against evil people and supported an artist I admire, I got death threats… not cool.”
The 28-year-old clarified that she won’t stay quiet, even if online bullies call her “worthless.” Seriously, guys…? I didn’t say anything terrible; everyone needs to chill. I said I don’t support bad people. Don’t attack me for that. And I never claimed to have a fantastic music career. Geez… relax.
Perry’s new song “Woman’s World” came out last Thursday and has upset some people because Dr. Luke worked on it. He was accused by Kesha of bad things like drugging and hurting her, which caused a big legal fight between them that’s settled now.
Dr. Luke says Kesha lied in 2014 when she said he drugged and hurt her after a party in 2005.
Recently, Kesha left her record labels Kemosabe and RCA Records, along with Vector Management, after finishing her long fight with the producer in June 2023. She couldn’t release new music for 19 years because of her legal battle with Dr. Luke.
In 2014, Kesha sued music producer Dr. Luke, accusing him of hurting her physically, sexually, verbally, and emotionally for 10 years. He denied it and sued her for $50 million, saying she damaged his reputation.
In 2016, Kesha dropped her abuse claims, but Dr. Luke’s lawsuit against her is still waiting for a court date. In 2019, Kesha said her lawyers told her not to talk about the case.
“They told me, ‘Focus on making music, being happy, and staying mentally healthy, and we’ll handle the rest.’ That’s been really helpful,” she told Billboard at the time.
Perry’s album “143” comes out on September 20.
