Over the years, we’ve been lucky to watch our favorite TV characters appear in other shows. Remember when the Supernatural guys turned into cartoons with Scooby-Doo? Or when The X-Files characters appeared in The Simpsons? Those were great moments.
Now, in 2025—a year that feels chaotic in many ways—we’re at least getting two excellent TV crossovers, thanks to Philadelphia! Earlier this year, the wild group from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia showed up in the cheerful world of Abbott Elementary.
And soon, we’ll get to see the Sunny gang’s version of the story.
Recently, Kaitlin Olson, one of the stars of Sunny, talked with Entertainment Tonight about filming that super popular episode, which aired back in January.
It was so much fun and their episode was so funny. I loved every second of it. I got to wear a Benjamin Franklin get-up.
the actress said
If there’s one thing we know about Olson’s character Sweet Dee, it’s that she enjoys teaching kids—especially when it involves dressing up and singing.

While giving a sneak peek of what’s coming in the second part of the crossover, Olson added more details.
Sunny, when we come back in July, you see our side of the crossover event. So what happened that week from our perspective. It’s the same exact week where they volunteered at Abbott Elementary, but it’s from the gang’s perspective.
Thankfully, no multiverse jumping was needed to unite these two beloved shows. It all came from a mutual respect for each other’s humor, storytelling, and characters shared by the creators of both series. Talking about how it all came together, Olson explained.
Rob and Quinta and I would always meet each other at events like this and just talk about how we were fans of each other. And Rob and Quinta were like, ‘We should do a crossover episode,’ and they kept coming back to that and it was last year at this event that they were like, ‘No, let’s do it and we have some ideas.’ Then Rob pitched an idea. It was so fun. What a dream come true.
The first half of the crossover let Abbott Elementary push slightly into more mature, PG-13 content. But now that the gang is taking over, things will probably get wild and head toward an R rating. In the meantime, you can catch up on Abbott Elementary’s side of the gang’s volunteer week—it’s now streaming on Hulu.
