Luckily, based on what’s known about the future of Abbott Elementary, the popular and award-winning sitcom doesn’t seem likely to fall into that trap. As fans wait for details about Abbott Elementary season 5, the show’s star, Quinta Brunson, shared that the next season will feel different.
In September 2025, it was announced that Luke Tennie from the show Shrinking would join the Abbott Elementary cast in a recurring role, and more new characters might appear. That same month, Quinta Brunson told Deadline that these new faces will shake things up.
Anytime you bring an outside character into the picture, feathers are ruffled, and we’re going to see some of that, whether it be for our characters or from our characters to them; we have a group of exciting characters that might make other people be like: ‘What the [expletive] is wrong with these people?’ But we’re excited for those moments.
Fans will be eager to see how the main characters react to these newcomers. But according to what Brunson told Deadline, it’s not just the fresh characters that will make the next season different
While talking to the outlet, Brunson also hinted that Abbott Elementary season 5 will show the characters working together in new ways.
The star said that new situations will appear that viewers haven’t seen before.
New pairings of our characters, things you haven’t seen before. In fact, Quinta said the cast will face something so important it will create some significant shakeups for the show. [The teachers will] tackle something really, really, really major — a big game-changer that could make or break them [with] some significant shakeups.
Quinta’s comments about how season 5 will change the show are exciting and intriguing. She didn’t give any exact details about what will happen, only that unexpected events are coming, leaving fans to imagine what’s next.
