Timothée Chalamet’s latest film, A Complete Unknown, has crossed one last box office milestone, despite falling short at the Academy Awards. While Chalamet’s previous hits, Wonka and Dune: Part Two, both soared past $600 million globally, expectations for his Bob Dylan biopic were more modest. The film has now reached a total of $120 million worldwide—$73 million domestically and $46 million internationally—just days after leaving the Oscars empty-handed despite eight nominations.
Still playing in nearly 1,000 theaters, A Complete Unknown has not experienced the same post-Oscar bump as Best Picture winner Anora, which saw a dramatic 800% surge in ticket sales.
A Modest Box Office Run Amidst Fierce Competition
Throughout its theatrical run, A Complete Unknown never managed to crack the top five at the weekend box office. Its December release faced stiff competition, debuting alongside Nosferatu and shortly after Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King. The film opened with an $11 million weekend following Christmas, trailing behind these blockbusters as well as Wicked and Moana 2.
By its third weekend, the Dylan biopic managed to surpass Wicked, but was still outpaced by Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, once again missing a top-five spot. With its theatrical run nearing an end, A Complete Unknown has carved out a respectable, if not record-breaking, box office total.

What’s Next for Timothée Chalamet?
Despite missing out on Oscar gold for the second time in his career, Chalamet has plenty on the horizon. He is set to reprise his role as Paul Atreides in Dune: Messiah, the third and final installment in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi saga, which is expected to begin filming this summer. Additionally, he will star as the titular character in Marty Supreme, a biopic about ping pong champion Marty Mauser, set for release on Christmas Day. The film will also feature Gwyneth Paltrow in a supporting role.
