Danny Boyle’s movie 28 Days Later is different because it shows humans infected with a rage virus instead of typical zombies. Written by Alex Garland, the film is known for its terrifying creatures and its view of a world after an apocalypse. Over the years, it has become a fan favorite. Now, Boyle and Garland are continuing the series with 28 Years Later, which will feature new characters like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer.
Most details about the new movie are still a secret, but Empire Magazine has shared some updates about the trilogy. Alex Garland had many ideas for the next film, but he chose one that stood out to him.
It was a wholly different approach, It was about what that 28 years gives you
Danny Boyle shared

The first movie showed what happened right after the outbreak, and the sequel, 28 Weeks Later, moved the story forward by six months. But 28 years is a long time, and the world could become a much harsher place in that span.
This is very narratively ambitious. Danny and I understood that, We tried to condense it, but its natural form felt like a trilogy
Garland said
They tried to make it fit one movie, but the story naturally turned into a trilogy. It will begin with 28 Years Later, followed by 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta. The third movie, which Boyle will direct, depends on how audiences react to the first film.

28 Years Later will follow Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Isla (Jodie Comer), and their 12-year-old son Spike (Alfie Williams). They live on Holy Island, also known as Lindisfarne, which serves as their safe home. The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway that can only be crossed for a short time each day when the tide goes down.
It’s a small and tightly-knit community, To survive in such a dangerous world for so long, they’ve had to set very strict rules for defense, They’ve managed to build what they believe is a successful way of living.
explains Danny Boyle
The story takes a dramatic turn when young Spike decides to leave the safety of Lindisfarne to explore the world beyond. This journey reveals the harsh reality of the world outside. The trilogy’s main focus will be on what happens to Spike’s family and the country as the story unfolds across three movies. 28 Years Later will hit theaters on June 20. Don’t miss the trailer below!
